Khar/Home (2024) - STEPS Public Art x Brampton BOXED Project

I’ve re-imagined traditional South Asian/Indo-Caribbean garlands that are used in moments of celebration and adornment, to specifically honoUr queer and trans South Asian/Indo-Caribbean kin who are so deserving of their flowers. I specifically blend the use of traditional marigold garlands with non-traditional elements like hibiscus and cowrie shells to honour the connections we have to these elements across homelands and diasporas globally.

My intention with these illustrations were to create a visual portal where Black and Brown commuters could see themselves, or pause for a moment of joy, rest and grounding. I included elements across the illustrations that are close to home and connected to my bio and chosen family.
